Monolithic axes are ceremonial stone axes from the Mississippian period (AD 700–1500) and are typically carved from a single piece of stone and are usually associated with ceremonial centers and mound complexes.  This fine example is 16.25" long and is 9" wide at the blade, ca 1200 AD. It is from Colbert County Alabama and is from the Worley Museum.
